Potholders are my favorite, usually bigger than standard - 9" or 10". Use a "kitcheny" themed novely fabric like fruit or coffee, or a holiday or current event theme. Use any quilt block pattern that you like (www.quilterscache.com is a good place to find block patterns the right size) or just use plain squares of fabric. Use 3 layers of cotton batting between the 2 sides or a layer of batting and a layer on insulbrite (batting with heat-resistant mylar in the middle). You can use a matching or contrast binding around the outside, or sew them right sides together (leaving a space to turn) and flip them right sides out. Then quilt together with some straight lines so the layers don't shift. The possibilities are endless! Have fun!
