please help question about sewing machine?
my mom gave my daughter a sewing machine for xmas. i managed to get the thing threaded after an hour and lots of cursing but it sews uneven and the bottom thread gets knotty and the stitching is uneven. the unhelpful little booklet it came with says it is a tension problem but neglects to tell me how to fix it. Please help before i trow the darn thing through a window! It is a make it sew by as you wish products...they do not have a web address
it is called a make it sew by the brand name asyouwishroducts it is tiny but plugs in to the wall...i believe it is made for kids to start to learn on it looks like a tiny regular sewing machine ty for your answers it has a tension knob but no numbers and i am useless when it comes to even hand sewing... i could suture a wound up but can not darn a sock
EDITED TO ADD: Return it if possible, and see if you can find a used straight stitch Singer 15 or 66 in running condition at a garage sale or thrift store for the same money. This one is only going to be frustration city, I fear... I just found a photo on the web. 
If you insist on trying to make this one work, chances are the tension knob will adjust tighter by turning to the right, loosen by turning to the left, probably about "5 minutes" at a time until the loops on the bottom disappear.

I'm guessing this is a "hand held machine" or one of the battery operated jobbies. Can it still be returned? They're really not satisfactory sewing machines, and tend to frustrate people to the point that they become uninterested in sewing. Which is a real shame.
On a regular lockstitch sewing machine, loops on the bottom of the fabric (which is what I think you're reporting) would be either the upper tension mis-set (should be about 4), the upper thread misthreaded (typically by not raising the presser foot to open the tension disks so the thread can enter them), or you're trying to sew with the presser foot up. Or there's a bunch of lint in the upper tension.
Misthreading is the most common cause.
Can you tell us the make and model of the machine? Maybe someone will have some suggestions beyond this.

Best Binding techniques for Booklets and Catalogs
Printing booklets and printing catalogs have a lot of common elements in them. One of the most closely related options that you can choose for them is the binding. When you invest in printing booklets and catalogs, it is a must to be informed about the best binding techniques for them. Now, while this kind of binding is very useful for catalogs, especially if you change and update pages every so often, the binding process itself isn't particularly great. In this situation, the paper or page itself will be the first one to feel the stress leading to breaks or tears. Also, in terms of looks, ring binding isn't really the best for booklets, though some catalogs for shop use only can benefit from such binding.
Comb Binding - Look:3 Cheapness:5 Durability:3 | Comb binding is a nice alternative for cheap but professional binding. Comb binding uses plastic strips with teeth protruding from them which should fit rectangular holes into the pages of your document. There are simple machines that can do the whole comb printing process since it is really very simple. Some home kits are actually available for sale. Now, while comb binding is relatively cheap, is look is still less than ideal for materials like booklets. Also in terms of durability, there is the an increased chance of paper or plastic failure as the booklet or catalog encounter their daily vigors so it is not your option for real long term materials.
Stitch Binding - Look:4 Cheapness:4 Durability:4 | Stitch binding, also called saddle-stitch binding is a common binding technique for booklets. This involves folding the document pages together, and then using staples in the folds to bind them. This makes a nice seamless bind which is not immediately obvious to most observers. It is also decently strong enough as a binding technique, especially for thinner types of booklets. Coupled with a decently cheap price tag, this makes saddle stitching one of the best binding options that you should employ.
Perfect Binding - Look:5 Cheapness:2 Durability:5 – As the term implies, perfect binding is basically the best binding technique out there. It uses a combination of high quality adhesives and strong paper spine material to bind a book to a beautiful whole. Any evidence of the binding technique is almost unnoticeable, and it takes quite a bit of force to their the whole binding a part. This is the best option for booklet or catalog printing combined. If you want a professional looking and beautiful document this is the choice for you.
Always choose the binding option that best suits your goals. Balance the look of the brochure with your budget and of course your purpose in booklet printing or catalog printing.
