Try making small items in counted cross stitch such as bookmarks,coasters,fridge magnets. You can personlise them for the appropriate person. So many free designs on the web.

Get some rocks or pebbles that are interesting shapes and paint them in whatever way their shape reminds you of. For example, a pebble that has a smooth body and a piece jutting out could be painted to look like a cat lying down.
Another idea along the same lines is to paint themes onto wood or pebbles again. The wood could be hung up as a painting, the pebbles could be varnished with clear nail polish and used as paperweights.
Have an explore around the local woods, pick up stuff and see where your imagination takes you
